HAFLEY HOUSE

HAFLEY HOUSE

The Hafley House was designed as one of a pair with the adjacent Moore House. It demonstrates Richard Neutra’s modernist aesthetic of expansiveness, transparency and horizontality, qualities reinforced by the drought-tolerant landscape. Planting and hardscape materials were chosen to compliment the home’s color palette and support Neutra’s intent of erasing the boundaries between indoors and out. Hafley House has been awarded The American Architectural Award for 2016 by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, has been recognized by the Los Angeles Conservancy and the California Preservation Foundation, and received a Docomomo 2015 Award of Excellence.
